    A short film on Eberhart Zrenner shows how he is able to enable blind people to see again.

    Based on high-tech materials, Eberhart Zrenner, Senior Professor of Ophthalmology at the Werner Reichardt Centre for Integrative Neurosciences and Founding Director of the Research Institute of Ophthalmology at the Eberhart Karls University in Tübingen, aims at optimizing the interface of electrode material and neuron in order to improve temporal and spatial resolution of retinal implants in cooperation with the Hector Fellows, Manfred Kappes, Karl Leo und Martin Wegener. These highly efficient electrodes will be used in retinal implants to replace destroyed photoreceptors and enable patients suffering from hereditary retinal degeneration to experience some visual sensation again. The challenge on the one hand is the limited choice of electrode materials that are bio-compatible and on the other hand the high density of different neurons to be stimulated to improve the spatial resolution.
