Federal Cross of Merit for Antje Boetius

Hector Fellow Antje Boetius receives the Federal Cross of Merit.
The marine researcher Antje Boetius will be awarded the Federal Cross of Merit today, October 2, 2019, by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. According to the Office of the Federal President, Boetius not only contributes with her research to many high-ranking committees, but also makes the latest findings in oceanology accessible to a broad public.
Under the motto "Courage to the Future: Overcoming Borders", a total of 12 women and 13 men will be honoured with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Schloss Bellevue one day before the Day of German Unity and on the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Office of the Federal President describes the recipients of the award, including Hector Fellow Boetius, as "actors of the peaceful revolution and particularly committed personalities from the fields of art, culture and science. They are people who shape our society and our future with energy and courage and in doing so also overcome borders".
